Learn about BKT

BKT utilizes the building’s concrete mass for thermal energy accumulation, allowing for extremely economical heating and cooling. BKT is, in principle, a very simple technology. Heating or cooling water circulates in pipe registers embedded within massive concrete structures, primarily ceilings.

Heating and cooling of buildings using BKT is currently on the verge of widespread adoption in construction practice in Slovakia. More than 30 years of scientific research and thorough practical verification of this future technology, especially in the field of administrative and commercial buildings, are in a highly advanced stage, thus its implementation in practice can now rely on a well-established foundation. Hundreds of completed constructions in the vicinity serve as proof.

How it works

BKT primarily utilizes the principle of radiation to achieve high
thermal comfort in both heating and cooling.

Human thermal comfort is influenced by:

  • current activity
  • clothing
  • air temperature
  • air velocity
  • air humidity
  • surface temperature of surrounding surfaces

Debunking a Myth

"I will heat and cool my neighbor."

This is a common concern when presenting the BKT system. However, the reality is diametrically different. A negligible amount of energy “escapes” into adjacent spaces. The “leakage” is no different from other conventional heating or cooling methods.

Benefits of the Solution

Thermally activated concrete structures offer the following advantages:

  1. Low investment and operating costs.
  2. “Comfortable cooling” without drafts.
  3. Significantly reduced need for air exchange compared to cooling via ventilation systems.
  4. No sick building syndrome.

  6. Low heating temperatures of only 30°C and high cooling temperatures of approx. 18-20°C ensure efficient performance of alternative energy sources.
  7. Increased investor profit by saving on floor construction height – for high-rise buildings, the potential to add an additional floor while maintaining the same
    building height.
